A striking piece of classic British garage history, this Redex Gold Cross Motor Oil bottle stand was once used to display glass oil bottles and tins on service station forecourts. With its bright red finish and original advertising panel, it’s a perfect example of mid-century motoring design and practical branding.
Era: Late 1950s–early 1960s
Material: Painted metal wire frame with advertising plate
Colour: Bright Redex red with white and black printed sign
Use: Originally used in garages and petrol stations to hold oil bottles and promote Redex Gold Cross Motor Oil
The Redex brand was founded in the 1930s and became a household name for its petrol additives and engine cleaners.
By the 1950s, Redex expanded into the oil market with Gold Cross Motor Oil, advertised as “The Ultimate in Lubrication.”
Bottle racks like this were supplied to garages as dealer display stands, offering both functionality and advertising appeal.
Their sturdy wire design made them durable, while the enamel or printed plate showcased Redex’s bold, instantly recognizable branding.
This original stand shows light age-related wear, including small chips and patina to the painted frame, consistent with garage use. The advertising plate retains excellent legibility and displays beautifully. The piece has a wonderfully authentic vintage look.
Highly collectible among petroliana and British motoring enthusiasts.
Early Redex stands are increasingly scarce, especially with their original branding plate intact.
Perfect for display in a garage, workshop, showroom, or vintage motoring collection, or as a standout piece of industrial décor.
