This original BP globe displays beautiful patina consistent with its age, adding to its authenticity and vintage charm. The surface shows light weathering and speckling typical of mid-century display items. There is also a small chip on the neck, which does not detract from its overall presentation or structural integrity as this is covered by a rubber seal. A wonderful survivor with the character expected from a genuine piece of motoring history.
BP introduced its famous shield logo in 1930, symbolizing reliability and British heritage.
The green represented the British countryside, while gold reflected energy and quality.
During the 1950s and 60s, petrol pump globes served as illuminated beacons for drivers both advertising and lighting up forecourts at night.
